Message from the Chief of Police

On behalf of the Executive Officers, members and staff of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service, I would like to welcome you to our web page.

The Lethbridge Regional Police Service provides police services to Lethbridge and Coaldale, two culturally diverse communities with over 85,000 residents. The region is home to a college and university, supports both urban and rural lifestyles, and continues to attract new people to our beautiful area.

The Lethbridge Regional Police Service is comprised of 141 sworn members, 43 non- sworn members and a volunteer base of over 50 people who serve the communities of Lethbridge and Coaldale. The Service became Alberta’s first community driven Regional Police service on February 1, 2004, after a comprehensive and collaborative process that ensured both communities received an enhanced level of policing.

As Chief of Police, I am very proud of the professionalism, integrity and dedication that the men and women of our organization show everyday in the delivery of service to our communities.

Our Service is committed to the 4 pillars of policing:

Public Safety, Public Confidence, Public Trust and Professionalism

Public Safety: we face many challenges in a modern world in which technology provides several opportunities both good and bad. Economic opportunities / challenges as well as social issues continue to demonstrate the importance of partnerships and the need for a strong community.

Public Confidence and Public Trust: through open communication, fairness, and dedicated service we hope to improve and hold your confidence and trust. Please let us know how we are doing – communication helps build relationships - trust is the glue that holds them together.

Professionalism: our officers continually strive to provide the best services they can. The Executive of the Service will continue to look at development opportunities, accountability models and scan our environment to take advantage of opportunities and overcome challenges. We remain committed to public safety, strong relationships, transparency and accountability.

The Lethbridge Regional Police Service follows the Community Policing Model. As a strategically and intelligence led organization, members of the LRPS take action on more than 42,000 files annually. The Service is divided into four divisions each responsible for managing the various Patrol, Criminal Investigation, Administrative and Support Services functions, necessary to sustain a high standard of delivery in police service.

In addition to meeting Provincial Policing Standards, the Lethbridge Regional Police Service is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The CALEA accreditation process involves a comprehensive agency self-assessment of 459 key standards. The Service was first accredited in 1999 and has retained this distinction through two separate and consecutive reviews. In 2007 we again will have our procedures reviewed to retain our accreditation status.

The Lethbridge Regional Police Service has a long history of policing in Southern Alberta. We celebrated our Centennial in 2002 and our continued growth allows for new opportunities such as the Cultural Liaison, High Risk Offender and Internet Child Exploitation positions.

If you are interested in a career with us or have general interest in our Police Service, please take the time to explore the different areas on our web site to learn more about our Police Service. If you have any questions or if we can be of assisstance, please contact us at the numbers listed in our Directory link on the website.
