The Community Policing Division’s primary function is to provide the necessary service to maintain peace and good order, protect lives and property, and prevent and detect crime. The Community Policing Division provides timely, around the clock, police intervention to calls for service in the community and therefore members are primarily front-line uniformed members who are the first to respond to calls or the first point of contact with the public. The members of this division address matters of public safety, criminal activity and social disorder through officer initiated crime prevention, detection, apprehension, and education. In addition to patrol operations whereby mobile frontline, first response, emergent and non-emergent service is provided throughout Lethbridge and Coaldale, the Community Policing Division focuses on:

Downtown Policing – Addressing the quality of life issues in the downtown core in partnership with downtown interest groups.

Traffic Safety – Investigating and preventing collisions and traffic fatalities through programs involving education, enforcement and engineering.

Court Liaison – Providing support services to the courts.

Community Resources – Engaging our schools, providing community resources and liaising with our various ethnic communities.

Victim & Witness Services – Partnering to offer support and information to victims and witnesses during the first few critical hours after a crime or tragic event and providing an essential link between the police and victims.

The Community Policing Division works collaboratively to preserve the peace, prevent crime and disorder and enhance community safety. An essential component in engaging the community is the Community Resources Unit, which takes a multifaceted approach to community education, networking and partnership initiatives. Community capacity is built through partnerships to provide programming such as A.L.E.R.T., F.A.S., Community Liaison, School Liaison, Cultural Liaison and Crime Stoppers.
