ASIRT enroute following officer-involved shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been notified and is en route to the city to investigate following an officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier tonight.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. police responded to a weapons call involving a male with a knife in the 500 block of University Drive.  The male was located a short distance away by police.  There was a confrontation between the male, who was armed with a knife, and police.  The  male was subsequently shot by police and transported to Chinook Regional Hospital.  The male underwent surgery for non life threatening injuries and is in stable condition. The police officer was not injured.

"Our officer’s actions tonight were consistent with our training”, said Chief Rob Davis.
