Lethbridge Police, with assistance from RCMP, have charged a Calgary man following break-ins at two local dealerships, the theft of multiple vehicles and a pursuit that ended in the man’s apprehension by a police service dog.
On November 30, 2017 at approximately 9:53 p.m. police responded to a report of a break and enter at Dunlop Ford along the 1500 block of Mayor Magrath Drive after a male subject drove a truck into the garage door. Once inside the male retrieved a set of keys and upon being confronted by an employee fled to the parking area where he located the F350 truck the keys belonged to and drove away. The truck the male arrived in was determined to have been stolen out of Calgary. While police were processing the scene, the subject proceeded to Bridge City Chrysler along the 3200 block of 1 Avenue South and used the stolen F350 to drive into the garage door. Once entry was gained he proceeded to steal keys and moved a Fiat Spyder to an area down the street. It is believed this was done with the intent of returning to steal the vehicle at a later time. As the subject was attempting to move other vehicles from the lot, a security officer arrived and he subsequently fled in Dodge Ram 1500. Just before 12:30 a.m. an LPS officer located the suspect in the stolen truck near the dealership and two additional officers attended the scene and blocked the vehicle in. The subject proceeded to ram both police vehicles, pull away and flee on Highway 3. A police pursuit was initiated and RCMP were called to assist as the man left city limits. A spike belt was deployed by RCMP which disabled the truck. The subject then fled on foot and was later located in a shed where he was apprehended by Lethbridge Police Service Dog Myke. He was treated by EMS and subsequently arrested and charged.
