Charges laid in New Year’s Eve home invasion

Lethbridge Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred on New Year’s Eve.

Just after 11pm on December 31, officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Simon Fraser Boulevard West after receiving a 911 call reporting several people wearing disguises and brandishing pellet guns had entered a home. Veiled threats were made toward the occupants of the home before the suspects discharged the pellet guns into property, causing a small amount of damage.  The suspects fled in nearby vehicles prior to police arrival.  No one inside the residence was injured during the incident.

Subsequent police investigation led officers to the 1200 block of 9 Avenue North where one of the involved vehicles was located and five individuals were taken into custody without incident.  A pellet gun was also recovered during the investigation.

Two seventeen-year-old male youths, who can’t be named due to their age, have been charged with break and enter and commit mischief, disguised with intent, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.  They were released by a Justice of the Peace to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court at a later date.

The occupants of the residence and the suspects were known to each other and this incident is believed to be a targeted occurrence.  The police investigation is ongoing and there is the potential of additional individuals facing charges as a result of this incident.
