Lethbridge Regional Police have charged a 42-year-old Coaldale man in connection with several tire thefts.
On April 29, 2014 police responded to a report that a tire had been stolen off a vehicle parked in a lot along the 200 block of 4 Avenue South. A description of the suspect was provided at the time and while police were on scene a male matching the description was located beside a jacked up vehicle with one of its tires removed. The male was subsequently arrested without incident.
Police recovered a tire and rim from a vehicle the man was driving and later obtained and executed a search warrant at his home. Additional tires were recovered from the home.
Jeffrey Nicholas Cahoon, 42, of Coaldale is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000, attempted theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court May 2.
Since the end of March there have been more than a dozen tire thefts in Coaldale and Lethbridge, primarily from commercial locations where multiple vehicles are parked at any given time.
Investigation into the recent rash of tire thefts is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.
