Driver charged in connection with pedestrian collison

The Lethbridge Police Service has charged a 56-year-old man in connection with a pedestrian collision earlier this morning.

At approximately 7:29 a.m. police responded to a report that a young boy had been struck by a truck in the crosswalk of 20 Street and 18 Avenue North. The 12-year-old was subsequently transported to Chinook Regional Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries to his head and spine. The boy remains in hospital at his time. The driver was arrested at the scene without incident.

Investigation has determined alcohol was a factor in the collision.

Steven Melvin Supina, 56, of Lethbridge, is charged with one count of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Supina is scheduled to appear in court March 24.

Members of the Traffic Response Unit continue to investigate.
