Driver suffered acute medical distress prior to collision

Lethbridge Police have determined a 64-year-old man, who was involved in a single vehicle collision Wednesday night and later died in hospital, was in critical medical distress prior to the crash.

On September 14, 2016 just before 9 p.m. police and EMS responded to the 800 block of 5 Avenue North. Investigation determined a truck had struck a fence and entered the Atco Gas compound after the driver suffered an acute medical emergency. Neighbours who witnessed the collision rushed to the man’s aid, pulled him from the vehicle and began CPR. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to Chinook Regional Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

As this is a non-criminal matter, no further information will be released.
