A 22-year-old male who fell out of a moving vehicle last week has succumbed to his injuries. Hayden Reeves Heavy Shields, 22, of Lethbridge, died in Calgary Foothills Hospital over the weekend.
On June 6, 2014 at approximately 4 a.m. the male was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital with life-threatening head injuries. Investigation determined that the male had been riding in the box of a pick-up truck in the area of 9 Avenue and 5 Street South, when he fell out and struck his head. The male was subsequently transported by STARS air ambulance to Calgary. He died Saturday.
Investigation determined that drugs and alcohol were a factor in this incident.
Police previously charged the 19-year-old driver of the vehicle, Venessa Lilian Francis, with one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. As the victim has died from his injuries, upgraded charges are pending. Francis is scheduled to appear in court June 16.
