Investigation into homicide of nine-month-old baby boy ongoing

Lethbridge Police continue to investigate the death of nine-month-old Austin Wright who died as a result of blunt force trauma.

On April 28, 2016 Lethbridge EMS responded to a report of a nine-month-old boy in medical distress at a residence along the 600 block of 17 Street North. Upon arrival paramedics located baby Austin inside the home. He was not breathing and in cardiac arrest. Austin was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Family members originally reported to police that Austin had stopped breathing. An autopsy was subsequently conducted and determined he died as a result of blunt force trauma and his death was declared a homicide.

Police can confirm the fatal trauma Austin sustained was not consistent with a fall.

No charges have been laid and the Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate.

Police understand Austin’s death is deeply concerning and the community has questions, however no further information will be released at this time in order to protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation.
