Investigation ongoing in death of 47-year-old city man

Lethbridge Regional Police continue to investigate the death a 47-year-old man who was assaulted in a south side alley earlier this week and subsequently died in hospital.

The body of Gifford George Good Dagger, of Lethbridge, was transported to Calgary and an autopsy was performed today. The results of the autopsy are currently pending final analysis and no further details on the cause of death will be disclosed at this time.

On Aug. 31, 2015 at approximately 9:30 p.m. police and EMS responded to a report of a male who had been assaulted and was unconscious in the alley along the 900 block of 17 Street South. Good Dagger was transported to hospital with head and internal injuries and subsequently died the afternoon of Sept. 1.

Police identified two persons of interest, who are now considered suspects, but following preliminary questioning both were released from custody without charges pending further investigation.

While police are not in a position to disclose specific details, evidence to date suggests this was a targeted incident where the parties involved are known to one another.  There is no evidence to suggest any ongoing risk to the general public.
