Lethbridge Regional Police have charged a 32-year-old man in connection with a stabbing that occurred Monday morning along a busy north side street.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. police responded to a report of a male in medical distress at the Northside Medical Clinic along the 400 block of 13 Street North. Police and EMS attended and located a 29-year-old man with stab wounds. The victim was transported to hospital and treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital.
Investigation determined the victim had exited the medical clinic, was confronted by a male acquaintance and stabbed multiple times. The 32-year-old male subject was subsequently identified and arrested later in the day.
This was a targeted crime that involved a subject and victim who are known to one another. It was unrelated to the medical clinic.
Rueben Cody Smith, 32, of Lethbridge, is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of an offensive weapon and two counts of breach of a recognizance. Smith was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court today.
Staff Sgt. Scott Woods will be available for media interviews at 11 a.m. at the police station. This will be the only opportunity for on-camera interviews.
