Lethbridge man charged with assault with a weapon, theft of vehicle

Lethbridge Police have charged a 47-year-old man in connection with an incident where a truck was stolen and the owner assaulted as he attempted to stop the theft.

On February 1, 2018 at approximately 5:23 p.m. police responded to the Canadian Tire Gas Bar along the 1200 block of 2 A Avenue North after receiving a report that a White Chevrolet Silverado truck had been stolen. Investigation determined the owner of the truck parked his vehicle near the pumps and went inside the gas bar. As he left the store he observed an unknown male get inside. The owner jumped onto the driver’s side running board in an attempt to get the male to stop, but the vehicle fled causing the owner to collide with a parked vehicle before he fell off. The owner was examined by EMS but did not require further medical treatment.

The truck was recovered a short time later several blocks away and late Thursday night police identified the suspect. The male was subsequently arrested without incident at a northside home.

Troy Mark Dean, 47, is charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous driving and theft of a vehicle.

Dean is currently remanded in police custody and is awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
