Lethbridge man charged in connection with violent robbery

Lethbridge Police have charged a 34-year-old man in connection with a violent robbery where a female employee was threatened and assaulted.

On October 18, 2018 at approximately 7:10 p.m. a lone male wearing a bag over his head and armed with a knife entered a liquor store along the 1200 block of 8 Avenue North and demanded cash from the lone female employee. The suspect pinned the 51-year-old woman up against a wall, held a knife to her throat and threatened her before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash. The female did not require medical treatment. The incident was recorded on video surveillance and police subsequently located a male matching the suspect’s description a short distance away. He was arrested without incident and the weapon and a quantity of cash was recovered.

Kyle John Thurlow, 34, of Lethbridge, is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, wearing a disguise during an indictable offence and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. Thurlow is currently remanded in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
