Lethbridge man charged with drug trafficking offences

Lethbridge Police have charged a 44-year-old man with drug offences as part of ongoing efforts to target drug traffickers in the downtown core.

On April 11, 2019 members of the Downtown Policing Unit and Priority Crimes Unit conducting an enforcement operation observed a silver SUV, known to police as having previously been stopped in relation to drug offences, exit the alley along the 1000 block of 1 Avenue South and park a short distance away. A male on a bicycle, who followed from the alley, got off his bike and approached the vehicle. Police subsequently observed activity consistent with a drug transaction. Following further investigation the driver was found in possession of a bulk container of 10 grams of methamphetamine and nine pre-packed foils containing purple carfentanil.

In addition, the enforcement operation resulted in police arresting nine people on outstanding warrants.

Kenneth Donald Leverington, 44, is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Leverington was released by a Justice of the Peace and is scheduled to appear in court April 18.
