Lethbridge man facing impaired, dangerous driving charges

Lethbridge Police have charged a 39-year-old man with impaired and dangerous driving following a collision Thursday night.

On Nov. 16, 2017 at approximately 9:21 p.m. police observed a Toyota Camry without a licence plate on Highway 3 travelling at an excessive speed. The vehicle entered the southbound turning lane on Scenic Drive North and proceeded through the intersection on a red light colliding with a northbound vehicle. The driver of the Camry initially attempted to flee the scene but was subsequently arrested. Following further investigation he was found to be impaired by drugs. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of numerous items that had previously been reported stolen.

There were no injuries, but both vehicles sustained significant damage. North and southbound traffic on Scenic Drive was closed for just over an hour while police investigated.

Joshua Michael Hiott, 39, is charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving, possession of stolen property and possession of break-in tools.

Hiott is currently remanded in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
