Lethbridge Regional Police have charged a 27-year-old man in connection with two incidents of sexual assault.
On Jan. 8, 2015 at approximately 7 p.m. police responded to a report that a male had sexually assaulted a 22-year-old female who was walking in the area of the 800 block of 23 Street North. Investigation determined the male approached the female and engaged her in conversation before grabbing her, touching her inappropriately and attempting to pull her towards a residence. The woman struggled against the male and was able to break free of his grip and flee the scene.
In mid-November the male previously sexually assaulted the same woman in the area of the 800 block of 20 Street North when he approached her, engaged her in conversation and touched her inappropriately. The November incident was not reported at the time.
The subject and victim are known to one another, but only in passing.
Mahendra Bhujel, 27, of Lethbridge is charged with two counts sexual assault. He made his first court appearance Jan. 12 and was released on a recognizance with a number of conditions, including no contact with the victim and a daily 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew except for employment purposes or in the presence of an adult relative.
Bhujel’s next court appearance is Jan. 26.
