Man facing charges in connection with taxi theft and collision

Lethbridge Police have charged a 29-year-old man following an incident over the weekend where a taxi cab was stolen then involved in a single vehicle collision along Whoop Up Drive.

On February 19, 2017 just before 2 a.m. police responded to a report that a taxi had been stolen from along the 900 block of 2 Avenue South after witnesses reported a male get into the taxi and drive away at a high rate of speed. A short time later police were called to a single vehicle collision involving a taxi cab on Whoop Up Drive just before the bridge deck. Upon arrival officers located the stolen taxi with significant damage and a lone male driver trapped inside. Fire/EMS extracted the driver from the vehicle and transported him to hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver displayed signs of impairment and following further investigation was subsequently charged.

Wesley Blake Eagle Plume, 29, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and impaired driving. Additional charges are also anticipated.

Eagle Plume is scheduled to appear in court May 16.
