No charges laid in connection with weapons complaint

Charges are not being contemplated in connection with a weapons complaint earlier today.

At approximately 11 a.m. police responded to a report of male possibly in possession of firearm along the 3600  block of 2 Avenue North after receiving information that the man may be danger to himself or others.

Employees of H&R Transport were asked to remain inside the business and roads were closed as a safety precaution while police searched the parking lot and surrounding area.  Following further investigation the man’s vehicle was located in a parking lot along the 1000 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South and he was taken into custody without incident outside the Super 8 Hotel.

The 44-year-old man has been transported to Chinook Regional Hospital.

Police have received information with respect to the location of a firearm and investigation is ongoing to recover it.

There is no ongoing risk to the public and no charges are being contemplated at this time.

As this is a mental health-related incident, not a criminal matter, no further information will be released.
