No charges will be laid in tragic accident

No charges will be laid in connection with an incident where a female was run over by a vehicle early this morning.

On June 2, 2016 at approximately 5:30 a.m. police and EMS responded to the 100 block of Red Crow Boulevard after receiving a report that a truck had driven over a female. The 16-year-old female was transported to hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Investigation determined the girl had been under a truck parked on the street at the time she was run over. It is not known how long the girl was under the truck, nor is it known with certainty why she was there. When the 56-year-old driver entered his vehicle to leave for work he didn’t see her and she was subsequently run over as he proceeded to pull away from the curb. The driver immediately called 911 and remained on scene.

The girl’s body will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary to undergo an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

Members of the Traffic Response Unit have determined the driver’s actions were accidental and no charges will be laid.

The traffic collision, while tragic for all involved, is non-criminal in nature and as such no further information or details will be released.
