Police advising motorists not to park along the side of the road to view the river valley

In an effort to reduce the potential for collisions and other traffic safety issues, the Lethbridge Regional Police Service is advising motorists not to parking along the side of the road to view the river valley.

Police have encountered a number of vehicles parking along the sides of Highway 3 and Whoop-Up Drive in order to view the river valley and Oldman River. Parking in such a manner presents a safety issue and police will be issuing violation tickets.

Under the Use of Highway Rules of the Road Regulation motorists can be fined $172 for stopping or parking at or near the site of a fire, accident or emergency situation.

In addition, police are reminding all residents that the river valley remains closed. Please do not breach the barricades or enter the river valley. The fine for ignoring a barricade (failing to obey a traffic control device) is $172.

Police thank the public in advance for their cooperation.
