Police again reminding public to remove valuables from vehicles after weekend mischief/thefts

Police are once again reminding the public to remove all valuables from vehicles in order to help reduce the risk of having their windows smashed and items stolen.

Over the weekend police responded to dozens of incidents where the driver or passenger window of a motor vehicle was smashed out and the vehicle was entered. In some - but not all - of the cases items were stolen. The stolen items included: CDs, radar detector, sunglasses, iPods, laptops, cameras, change and more.

The areas that were targeted included:
1000 block of 1 Avenue South
900 block of 2 Avenue South
1100 block of 2 Avenue South
400 block 21A Street North
Heritage Close West
Heritage Crescent West
Heritage Point West
Heritage Road West
Ridgewood Crescent West
Sherwood Place West

Removing valuables and ensuring there is nothing visible in plain sight does not guarantee your vehicle won't be broken into, but it greatly reduces the likelihood.

Car prowling, vehicle mischief and thefts from vehicles is happening in all areas of the city. There is no area or neighbourhood that is immune.

Anyone who observes suspcious activity, including individuals looking in car windows or trying door handles, is asked to phone the Public Safety Communications Centre immediately at 403-328-4444
