Police charge daughter with mother's murder

Lethbridge Police have charged a 28-year-old woman with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her mother.

On April 28, 2016 at approximately 9:40 p.m. police responded to a report that 54-year-old woman, identified as Shelley Kristine Praill, had been stabbed at a home along the 2300 block of 18 Street North. Praill was located inside the home with life-threatening injuries and transported to Chinook Regional Hospital. She died in hospital a short time later.

An autopsy was conducted this morning in Calgary and confirmed Praill died as a result of a stab wound.

Praill’s 28-year-old daughter was identified as the as the assailant and arrested at the scene without incident. Further investigation determined the mother and daughter had been involved in an argument that resulted in the elder Praill being stabbed.

Jessica Lee Ann Praill, of Lethbridge, is charged with one count of second-degree murder. Praill is remanded in custody and is currently awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
