Police charge Lethbridge man with second degree murder

Lethbridge Police have charged a 52-year-old man with second degree murder in the death of a 48-year-old woman over the weekend.

On September 16, 2017 at approximately 3:30 p.m. an officer on patrol observed and intervened in an assault in progress along the 400 block of 6 Avenue South. EMS were immediately called and the male suspect arrested. The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she died a short time later.

Investigation determined the victim and accused are known to one another.

An autopsy is scheduled for today at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary to confirm the cause of death.

Rodney Yellow Old Woman, 52, of Lethbridge, is charged with one count of second degree murder. He made his first court appearance this morning and was remanded in custody to next appear on Sept. 28.

At the request of the victim’s family, her name will not be released.
