Police charge man with sexual assault of 15-year-old girl

Lethbridge Police have charged a 59-year-old man who entered a north side home during the early morning hours and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl in her bedroom.

On Nov. 7, 2016 at approximately 5:14 a.m. police responded to a 911 call reporting that a 15-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted in her home by an unknown male. Multiple officers responded and cordoned off the area. At approximately 5:27 a.m. police located a male matching the offender’s description and he was subsequently arrested without incident.

Investigation determined that sometime between 3 and 4 a.m. the man gained entry to the home through a basement door and encountered the victim asleep in her bedroom. He took steps to prevent her from screaming and waking up the other members of her family then proceeded to sexually assault her.

The accused and victim are not known to one another. This was a random crime.

Darral Gerard Courtoreille, 59, of Lethbridge is charged with housebreaking and commit sexual assault and sexual interference. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court on Nov. 8
