Police charge two drivers in connection with pedestrian collisions

Lethbridge Regional Police have charged two drivers in connection with two unrelated pedestrian collisions this week.

On Feb. 12 at approximately 3:50 p.m. police responded to a report of a pedestrian collision at the intersection of 23 Street and 18 Avenue North. Investigation determined that a 56-year-old woman was walking westbound across 23 Street North in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle turning southbound onto 23 Street from westbound Park Meadows Boulevard. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Jayden Cameron Gerstenbuhler, 19, of Picture Butte, is charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

On Feb. 13 at approximately 2:35 p.m. police responded a pedestrian collision at the intersection of 8 Street and 4 Avenue South. Investigation determined that a vehicle travelling westbound on 4 Avenue South turned southbound onto 8 Street South and struck a 54-year-old female pedestrian who was crossing westbound in the marked crosswalk. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Lea Pohjaka Switzer, 62, of Lethbridge, is charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The specified penalty for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a cross walk is a $575 fine.
