Police charge two people; recover nearly $20,000 worth of stolen property

Members of the ALERT Lethbridge Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) concluded a short-term drug investigation into a dial-a-dope operation last week recovering drugs and a significant quantity of stolen property.

On Feb. 20, 2014 police executed a search warrant at a home along the 900 block of 8 Street North. A male and female were arrested without incident and police recovered small quantities of narcotic pain medication and crack cocaine, along with cash and nearly $20,000 worth of stolen property.

The stolen property consists of electronics (televisions, laptops, tablets, game consoles), clothing, jewelry, pellet guns and other items.

Police believe the property was provided in exchange for drugs.

Mark Anthony Brown, 44, of Lethbridge and Janel Dawn Donovan, 32, of Lethbridge, are charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of the proceeds of crime. Both made their first court appearances last week.

CFSEU-Lethbridge is an ALERT team established and funded by the Government of Alberta to bring together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to tackle serious and organized crime. Nearly 400 municipal police, RCMP, and sheriffs work for ALERT.
