Police continue to investigate possible school threat

Lethbridge Police continue to investigate a possible threat at Gilbert Paterson Middle School and as a precaution there is an increased police presence at other local schools.

On March 22, 2018 the principal at Gilbert Paterson Middle School along the 2100 block of 12 Avenue South contacted police to report a possible threat after a student discovered a written message threatening violence. At this time it is unknown who wrote the message or how long it was there before the student observed it and notified staff. The investigation is ongoing.

Police take all threats of violence seriously and as a precaution there is an enhanced police presence in and around other local schools.

There is no further information to release at this time.

School District 51 made the decision to close Gilbert Paterson today and any inquiries related to school operations should be directed to them.
