Police investigating cemetery mischief after headstones from early 1900s damaged

Lethbridge Regional Police are investigating after a dozen headstones were damaged at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

On March 12, 2014 police responded to a report from a city worker that a number of headstones in St. Patrick’s Cemetery along the 500 block of 6 Avenue North had been broken. The damage is believed to have occurred sometime between March 10 and March 12.

The headstones were in an older part of the cemetery and date back to the early 1900s. The majority of the damaged headstones were made of white marble, which cemetery officials say is no longer used by headstone manufacturers.

Damage is estimated at more than $5,000.

 Investigation is ongoing.
