Police investigating early morning assault

Lethbridge Police are investigating a serious assault after a woman was attacked by an unknown male during the early morning hours.

On March 18, 2017 at approximately 3:13 a.m. an injured woman attended the police station and reported she had been attacked by an unknown male in the area of 6 Avenue South near the Civic Centre. The 38-year-old woman reported the male approached her, solicited her for sex and when she refused he assaulted her. She ultimately escaped and ran out into traffic along 6 Avenue South where multiple vehicles drove past her before a taxi stopped and transported her to the police station.

EMS were subsequently called and transported the victim to Chinook Regional Hospital for treatment of serious head and facial injuries. She has since been released.

The suspect is described a black male, approximately 5’9” tall, 160 lbs., with short brush cut-style hair and a heavy accent. He was wearing a white or cream-coloured hoodie and possibly jeans.

Investigation is ongoing.
