Lethbridge Police are reminding everyone participating in the 41st annual Street Machine Weekend that all the rules of the road still apply and to celebrate the festivities responsibly.
On July 12, 2019 the “Friday Night Cruise” will feature parade style cruising along 3 Avenue South from 7 to 10 p.m. The parade route – along 3 Avenue South between 4 Street and Mayor Magrath Drive – will be closed and motorists who are not part of the cruise will be required to take an alternate route. All spectators are reminded that liquor consumption on the street is prohibited and must be contained within licensed beer gardens/establishments only. In past years following the cruise with heavy vehicle traffic still on the road, there have been challenges with speeding, stunting, distracted driving, impaired driving, liquor offences and other violations. Police and Alberta Sheriffs will have additional resources on duty during the cruise night and LPS will be on patrol throughout the city all weekend.
Out of town visitors are advised the City of Lethbridge utilizes photo enforcement and there are multiple intersections monitored by Intersection Safety Devices that record red light and speeding violations. All ISD intersections are clearly sign posted.
Police congratulate the Street Wheelers Car Club on 41 years of hosting SMW and thank them for their ongoing efforts to work with law enforcement to ensure the event is safe for everyone attending.
