Suspicious house fire remains under investigation

Lethbridge Police and the Lethbridge Fire Department continue to investigate a suspicious fire that destroyed a south side home early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:05 a.m. on July 24, 2016 the Public Safety Communications Centre received several 911 calls reporting a home on fire in the 600 block of 9 Avenue South. Sixteen fire fighters from three stations responded and upon arrival found heavy smoke and flames coming from the main floor of the residence. The fire quickly spread and the building could not be salvaged. No injuries were reported and damage to the home and neighbouring structures is estimated at $200,000.

Preliminary investigation determined the fire to be suspicious and one male subject was taken into custody at the scene. He has since been released without charges.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release at this time.
