Two men charged in connection with downtown assault

Lethbridge Police have charged two men in connection with an incident where a 37-year-old male was assaulted Friday morning.

On December 6, 2019 at approximately 8:30 a.m. police responded to a report of an assault along the 200 block of 5 Street South after a citizen located an injured male and called 911. EMS transported the victim to hospital where he was treated for multiple cuts and lacerations to his head and later released.

Investigation determined the victim had attended Galt Gardens and was attacked by three males, who were known to him. A small quantity of cash was taken from the victim and he was bear sprayed and struck in the head multiple times with a metal object. The matter is drug-related.

A 43-year-old male suspect was identified and located later in the morning riding a stolen bicycle along the 1400 block of 2 Avenue North. He was arrested without incident. A second male suspect was identified and on Dec. 7 he was located and arrested by Community Peace Officers in the downtown core. The 19-year-old male initially attempted to run but was apprehended by the officers. He continued to resist arrest by struggling with the CPOs but after a short scuffle he was taken into custody without further incident.

The investigation is ongoing to locate the third suspect.  Anyone with information or may have witnessed the incident, is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477. Tips can also be submitted online at www.p3tips.com.
