The Watch officially launches SafeWalk initiative

Members of The Watch are now just a phone call away for anyone looking for a little company to help get them safely to their destination.

SafeWalk provides an escorted walk to and from any location within The Watch patrol zone and is available to all members of the public daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“The Watch has been informally providing SafeWalks since its inception last month, but now that we have an official phone number it will make the process that much more efficient,” said Jeff Hansen, Watch Manager. “The old ‘there’s safety in numbers’ adage still holds true and whether someone is looking for a quick escort to their vehicle or from one business to another, our volunteers are happy to accompany them.”

To contact The Watch and request a SafeWalk call 403-715-WALK (9255). The nearest team of volunteers will then be dispatched to your location and escort you to your destination. The Watch – recognizable by their red shirts – patrol from the river valley to Mayor Magrath Drive and 6 Avenue South to 5 Avenue North.

**Jeff Hansen will be available for media interviews today at 1 p.m. at the police station**
