Woman charged with murder in connection with the death of her partner

Lethbridge Police have charged a 54-year-old woman with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her intimate partner.

On February 7, 2016 at approximately 5:15 p.m. police and EMS responded to a report of a severely injured female in an apartment along the 100 block of Columbia Boulevard West. Upon arrival, emergency responders located 56-year-old Frances Candace Little Light inside. Little Light was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

An autopsy conducted at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary determined that Little Light died as a result of stab wounds.

Investigation determined Little Light and the accused were intimate partners and had lived together in the apartment where the victim’s body was found. The pair had been involved in an argument that escalated and ultimately resulted in Little Light’s death.

Police recovered the weapon used in the incident a short distance away from the apartment complex.

On May 30, 2016 police arrested the suspect without incident as she was released from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre on unrelated matters.

Jillian Wendy Across the Mountain, 54, is charged with one count of second-degree murder. She is scheduled to appear in court this morning.
