Child Safety Seats

Lethbridge Police are reminding drivers to make sure children are properly secured in the correct child safety seat for their age, height and weight.

Child safety seats significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a collision, but only when they are used and installed correctly. Take the time to review your car seat manufacturer's instructions and your vehicle owner's manual to ensure everything is properly fitted.

✅ Children weighing 18 kg (40 lbs) or less must be in a properly installed child restraint.
✅ Children are safest in the back seat.
✅ Drivers are responsible for ensuring passengers under 16 are properly secured.
✅ The fine for not using a child safety seat or seat belt is $162.

Before you hit the road, check that your child's seat is the right fit and properly installed. A few minutes can make a life-saving difference.
