Driver ticketed following collision with motorcycle
Lethbridge Police have issued a ticked to the driver of a vehicle following a collision with a motorcycle resulting in serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
On October 2, just before 7:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a collision involving a truck and a motorcycle along the 1700 block of 23 Street North. Upon arrival, officers located an injured 68-year-old male in the roadway, where several bystanders were providing assistance. The man was transported to hospital by EMS for treatment of a leg injury.
Investigation by members Traffic Response Unit determined a 63-year-old male operating a Ford F350 was attempting to exit a parking lot onto northbound 23 Street North when the vehicle collided with a southbound motorcycle.
The driver of the truck was issued a ticket for failing to proceed safely after stopping at an intersection.
Police are reminding the public that safety is a shared responsibility. Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger vehicles, making rider awareness and driver vigilance critical. Before turning, changing lanes or entering a roadway, drivers should double-check for approaching motorcycles. Riders can help improve their safety by maintaining safe speeds, wearing appropriate protective gear and positioning themselves for maximize visibility.
