Lethbridge Police officer charged in off-duty incident

A member of the Lethbridge Police Service has been charged in connection with an off-duty incident.

The constable was arrested Tuesday by RCMP, who assisted with the investigation. He is charged with criminal harassment, mischief and being unlawfully in a dwelling house, in connection with domestic-related matters.

Given the domestic nature of this incident, the name of the officer will not be released to protect the identity and privacy of the victim. The constable is a 20-year member of the Service and has been suspended with pay. 

This information is being released in the interest of public transparency. 

It is LPS policy to withhold the name of the accused if disclosure could identify the victim of a domestic incident. This policy applies equally to any member of the public in order to protect the privacy of impacted victims. 

The charged officer and his family have been offered appropriate supports from the Service during the court process.  

No further information in relation to this matter will be released and there will be no media availability.
