Lethbridge Police suspend participation in Crime Stoppers program pending outcome of investigation
The Lethbridge Police Service has suspended its participation in the Crime Stoppers program following a cybersecurity incident involving the organization’s tip management platform.
P3 Tips, operated by third-party provider Navigate 360, was compromised earlier this year after a data breach impacted Crime Stoppers submissions, including personal information identifying individuals who provided tips.
At this time, it is unknown if anyone who provided tips to the Southern Alberta chapter of Crime Stoppers has been affected by the breach.
LPS is closely monitoring the situation and will carefully review the findings of an investigation by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner before determining whether participation in the program will resume.
Members of the public with information about a crime or public safety concern, are encouraged to contact LPS directly. For non-emergencies, call 403-328-4444. In an emergency, call 911. Please note that information provided directly to police does not carry the anonymity associated with Crime Stoppers.
Inquiries regarding the cybersecurity incident, scope of any affected information or the measures being taken in response should be directed to the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association.
LPS will not provide further comment.
