Male charged in connection with drug trafficking to vulnerable population downtown
Lethbridge Police seized more than two hundred doses of methamphetamine and charged a B.C. man after observing drug trafficking activity downtown.
On March 3, members of the Crime Suppression Team and Property Crimes Unit observed activity consistent with drug trafficking along the 300 block of 4 Street South, an area identified by Comp Stat as an emerging crime hot spot. With assistance from the Downtown Policing Unit, a vehicle was stopped and the driver and one occupant were arrested without incident. During a search of the vehicle incidental to arrest, police seized 25.5 grams of methamphetamine and nearly seven grams of fentanyl – approximately 250 and 70 doses of the drugs. Additional drug paraphernalia, including a scale, and cash proceeds of crime were seized.
Daniel Richard Steven Hein, 41, of Courtenay, B.C., is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Hein was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 4.
A female was released without charges.
