Police charge male in connection with shooting at westside home

Lethbridge Police have charged a 20-year-old male in connection with a shooting at a westside home earlier this year.

On May 10, at approximately 1:09 a.m. a single gunshot was fired through the second-floor bedroom window of a home along Lafayette Boulevard during a house party. Numerous partygoers immediately fled the scene prior to police arrival. When officers entered the home, it was evident bear spray had been deployed, but no one with injuries was located.

The investigation determined the property had been rented through Airbnb and was used for a nearly week-long party by a large group of people. The gunshot was fired following an altercation between several males inside the home.

The individuals involved in the incident are known to one another. This was not a random crime.

On July 16, a male subject, who has been in custody on unrelated matters since mid-June, was charged in connection with the shooting.

Emilio Jharlin Gagnon-Quinteros, 19, of Lethbridge, is charged with pointing a firearm, intentional and reckless discharge of a firearm, intentionally discharging a firearm knowingly being reckless, failure to comply with a probation order and two counts of use of an imitation firearm while committing an indictable offence.

Gagnon-Quinteros is currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
