Police charge male with aggravated assault
Lethbridge Police have charged a 34-year-old male with aggravated assault after a 31-year-old male sustained life-threatening injuries during a physical altercation.
On May 8 just after midnight, police responded to a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex along the 2000 block of Palm Road South. Upon arrival, officers located a male with head injuries. The male was uncooperative and declined medical attention at the time. He was transported home into the care of family while police continued the investigation. Later in the afternoon, the male’s condition declined and he was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Calgary with life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation determined the male’s injuries were sustained following a verbal altercation that escalated to a physical confrontation in the hallway of the apartment complex. A subject was identified, and was already in police custody after being arrested during the initial call to the apartment complex for breaching release conditions stemming from a past, unrelated matter.
Shelbi Cole Sheepskin, 34, of Lethbridge, is charged with aggravated assault. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Sheepskin was remanded in custody to appear in court today.
The victim remains in hospital in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
