Police charge male with fraud involving false pretences

Lethbridge Police have charged a 38-year-old male in connection with three separate instances of fraud involving false pretences and believe there may be additional victims.

In each of the reported cases, a male approached the victim and requested money to help with what was later determined to be a fabricated family emergency. He told the victims the funds would be returned promptly, but they were never repaid.

Following an investigation, police identified the suspect and arrested him without incident on May 14, 2026.

Jordan William Bennett, 38, of Lethbridge, is charged with three counts of false pretences under $5000. He was released from custody with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court July 9, 2026.

As the investigation continues, police believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone who has experienced similar circumstances, or who has information related to this investigation, to contact the Lethbridge Police Service at 403-328-4444 and reference file 26007538.

Police are also reminding the public to exercise caution when approached for money, whether in person or online:

  • Don’t be afraid to say “no.” You are not obligated to give money or information to someone you do not know
  • Be wary of urgent pleas that play on your emotions
  • Verify a person’s identity and the legitimacy of their claims before taking any action
  • Never provide money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or any other form of payment to someone you do not know
