Police charge males with weapons offences
Lethbridge Police have charged two males with weapons offences following a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of a prohibited firearm.
On March 10, police observed a vehicle travelling erratically and the driver smoking from a drug pipe. A traffic stop was initiated in a southside neighbourhood where the driver and one occupant were arrested without incident.
During a search of the vehicle incidental to arrest, police seized an assault-style rifle – prohibited in Canada – and a loaded magazine. In addition, police seized nearly 13 grams of methamphetamine, a very small quantity of cocaine and a used drug pipe.
Jordie Alexander Macleod, 44, of Lethbridge, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm/ammunition, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public and possession of a controlled substance.
Macleod was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court March 16.
Kyle Garth McGinnis, 40, of Lethbridge, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm/ammunition, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition.
McGinnis was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court March 12.
