Police charge sex offender for breaching lifetime conditions within hours of his release from custody
Lethbridge Police have charged a 47-year-old male with multiple counts of breaching a lifetime prohibition order stemming from a conviction of child sexual offences.
On May 1 at 7 a.m., the male was released from custody after serving four years for sexual interference, child luring, possession of child pornography, sexual exploitation and uttering threats. At approximately 11:45 a.m., he was observed by police at the public library using a social media account online to view images of children contrary to a lifetime prohibition order.
The order was issued after the male’s conviction for sexually assaulting and exploiting two young girls in 2021 and 2022, and includes lifetime prohibitions from attending any community centre, using the internet or other digital network unless in accordance with the conditions set by the court, and using any social media application designed to connect with strangers.
James Robert George Martinac, 47, of Lethbridge, is charged with four counts of failing to comply with a prohibition order.
Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Martinac was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court May 6.
