Police continue targeted traffic enforcement over long weekend

While cool, rainy weather curtailed traffic over the long weekend, officers continued to monitor and address high-risk and nuisance driving behaviours as part of the Lethbridge Police Service's targeted traffic enforcement initiative.

As a result of these efforts, police issued 46 violation tickets, one Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) Fail, one fail-to-stop and 14 trespass warnings.

Launched in 2022, the targeted traffic enforcement initiative runs each summer in addition to regular traffic enforcement conducted by Traffic Response Unit and Patrol officers. The project targets driving behaviours such as speeding, stunting, racing, excessive noise, equipment violations and other aggressive or illegal driving. Members of the Traffic Response Unit provide a highly visible police presence during these initiatives to deter illegal driving activity and conduct enforcement.

The public is encouraged to report violations and ongoing high-risk driving behaviour by calling 403-328-4444. Public reports and traffic data analysis help guide enforcement priorities and deployment decisions.
