Police determine report of suspicious packages to be unfounded
MEDIA RELEASE
Lethbridge Police determined a report of suspicious packages left at H&R Block along the 500 block of University Drive West to be unfounded.
The business reported an unknown person had left several boxes at the business sometime over the weekend indicating the contents were important and they would return to retrieve them. When the business opened this morning, staff noted the boxes were still there and one of them had an image of an explosive device displayed on the outside. Police were subsequently called.
Neighbouring businesses within the strip mall were evacuated as a precaution while members of the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) were on scene. EDU examined the boxes, determined they contained documents and did not pose any risk.
Police thank the businesses that were impacted and members of the public for their cooperation during the investigation.
