Police lay charges in connection with two recent injury collisions

MEDIA RELEASE

Lethbridge Police have charged the drivers in two separate collisions last month that resulted in serious injuries.

On January 4 at approximately 5:27 p.m. police responded to a report of a pedestrian collision at the intersection of 2 A Avenue North and 10 Street North. Investigation determined a 39-year-old female was crossing 2 A Avenue North when she was struck by an eastbound Honda Civic. The victim was transported to a Calgary hospital with life-threatening injuries. She remains in Calgary at this time and is recovering from her injuries.

A 26-year-old Lethbridge male was charged under the Traffic Safety Act with careless driving.

On January 9 at approximately 8:16 a.m. police responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of 13 Street North and 40 Avenue North. Investigation determined a Chevrolet Silverado travelling southbound on 13 Street North collided with a Honda Civic that was eastbound on 40 Avenue North. Two occupants of the Civic – a 39-year-old male and 43-year-old female – were transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The 16-year-old driver of the Silverado attended the hospital on his own. Further investigation determined excessive speed was a factor in the collision.

A 16-year-old Lethbridge male, who cannot be named, is charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in youth court March 16.
