Police seeking assistance to identify subject in crime spree

Lethbridge Police are investigating a series of incidents across the city Wednesday night and are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the suspect.

In all instances the subject description was consistent.

On August 26 at 8:45 p.m., police responded to a carjacking report in the parking lot of a business along the 500 block of 8 Street South. A security officer reported an unknown male ordered him out of his vehicle, then attempted to physically remove him. The subject was unsuccessful and fled the scene. 

While attempting to locate the subject, an officer was advised a male matching the description had previously entered a convenience store along the 700 block of 6 Avenue South with his face partially covered and his hand in his pocket appearing to brandish a weapon. The male demanded cash, but none was provided and he fled the scene. No weapon was observed. 

Around 9 p.m., police responded to a report of the male attempting to enter a back yard along the 600 block of 6 Street South. The home owner confronted the subject and he proceeded to point something at her. The male became belligerent then left the area. 

At 10 p.m., police responded to a 911 call after the same subject approached a male sitting on a bench on the pedestrian bridge along Whoop Up Drive. The subject was brandishing a skill saw and demanded the victim turn over his bag. The victim feared for his safety, got on his bike and fled from the subject who chased him a short distance on foot. 

Around 10:42 p.m., police responded to a parking lot at the university after a security officer reported the subject had confronted the occupant of a vehicle. The victim told police he was sitting in his vehicle when the unknown male slapped the driver’s side window and ordered him out. When the victim did not exit, the subject proceeded to the passenger side then left on foot. Throughout the interaction the subject had his hand in the back of his waistband, and the victim believed he may have been concealing a weapon. No weapon was observed.

No one was injured in any of the incidents and despite extensive police efforts, the subject was not located.
