Police warning about unpaid tickets text scam

Lethbridge Police are warning residents about a text message scam claiming recipients must pay overdue tickets. The message typically includes a link directing users to make payment.

These messages are fraudulent.

The Lethbridge Police Service, Government of Alberta and City of Lethbridge DO NOT send text messages requesting payment for fines or tickets.

What to watch for:

  • Unsolicited text messages referencing overdue fines or tickets
  • Messages creating urgency or threatening penalties
  • Links directing you to unfamiliar payment websites

What you should do:

  • Do not click on any links included in the message
  • Do not provide personal, financial, or payment information
  • Delete the message immediately and do not respond or engage

If you are unsure about a fine or ticket, contact the appropriate agency directly using official contact information.

  • Attend the Lethbridge Police Service in-person to speak with an officer
  • Contact Crime Stoppers to provide a tip about an unsolved case or suspected criminal activity
